A special talk and other local events coming soon at Mountains and Waters
This weekend:
- Sunday morning 8/18 at 10:15 – Beth Goldring, founder of Brahmavihara Cambodia, will give a talk at Northfield Buddhist Meditation Center. https://northfieldmeditation.wordpress.com/upcoming-events/
- Saturday 8/17 9-5 (all day or any part) – work day at the farm, with lunch. What we actually do will depend on weather, numbers, and skills. The biggest project would be moving some more raspberries. If we don’t tackle that, there’s always weeding, things with firewood, and facing the invasive problem. If you can offer carpentry skills or chain saw skills, let me know in advance.
- Sunday afternoon 8/18 2-5 – Sitting meditation in the new zendo. Three hours with breaks for walking meditation, and the option of walking outdoors instead.
- Sunday evening 8/18 potluck 5:30-8:30 at the farm. We share food and then watch or listen to something interesting for discussion. This month there’s been a request for a Jem Bendall talk, so that’s the plan. Jem Bendall is the originator of “Positive Deep Adaptation,” acknowledging that society is actually not going to continue as before, and that we need to find a way to address it. When he says “societal collapse” I think of climate refugees, extreme polarization within the country, and the clown president. Your choices may differ.
- Next weekend, August 23-25: Sesshin. A weekend of just sitting meditation, with breaks for walking meditation, meals, and sleep. Registration is required, and either a modest fee or work exchange in advance. It’s fine to ask questions before registering! Friday 7 pm to Sunday 3 pm, you can tent or sleep indoors.
Looking ahead to September:
- 9/14 workday
- 9/15 afternoon sitting meditation
- 9/15 evening potluck
- 9/20-22 sesshin
Directions and practical information are at this page.
The newsletter will come out separately.
Thanks much.
