Biochar Workshop May 18, 2024

We’ll make biochar together in our home kiln. You’ll haul wood, build and maintain the fire, damp down the fire, harvest biochar, and learn what you

need to know from Perry Post, an experienced landscaper and nurseryman who has been making biochar

Inoculated biochar, ready to use

for a while now.

This day goes from one to dusk on May 18.Please send an email. (We will expect you – so email again if you change your mind.)  IF YOU’D LIKE TO COME EARLY AND HANG OUT WITH THE LAND, LET US KNOW. We have canceled the weekend retreat, but Shodo is happy to teach meditation or do mindful harvesting/gardening with you.

Expect to learn everything about making biochar at a small scale, from building the first fire to storing and inoculating it.

There’s no fee for the workshop. Any donations will go to Perry for his work and expertise. He’s been collecting wood for a while now, and you can see the current inoculated pile.

You can also buy inoculated biochar from us, ready for your garden, or raw biochar from the day’s work. Bring a container.

Supper will involve foraged foods, potluck, possibly grilling over the biochar fire, and so forth. The famous nettle soup is a likely part.

Here is basic information including parking, directions, and so forth. We’ll have bug stuff available if needed.
