SUMMARY:Sesshin at Sanshinji\, June 1-5\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:Instead of in-person sesshin at the farm\, I am leading sesshin at my teacher’s temple. Everything is different. For full information see https://www.sanshinji.org/sesshin.html \nSanshinji is still transitioning with covid safety precautions. There’s no charge to “listen in” to this sesshin online – though there’s nothing to hear\, it’s a chance to sit with community. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Spring Cleanup Day May 21\, 2022
DESCRIPTION:This is a volunteer day in beautiful late May – Saturday May 21. We always enjoy these times. \n\nIf we’re lucky\, the house construction is finished and we can move furniture into place and set up a much more beautiful gathering space.\nIf the construction isn’t finished\, we’ll do garden prep and outdoor cleanup. There is a small building project possible for those so inclined.\n\nEither way\, no particular skills or strength required; you’re welcome and there is a way to contribute. \nREGISTRATION IS ESSENTIAL! because I’ll be preparing lunch and snacks\, and planning work projects. You can email me or use the form below\, ignoring irrelevant items (which is most of them)\, and check “work exchange” in the fee section. (There is no charge\, but sometimes we have technical problems.) Directions and parking instructions are at the links below. \nWe’ll update the Covid stuff in mid-May. Basically we’re trying to arrange it so everyone can feel safe without masks. Even people with health challenges. \nADDITIONAL OPTIONS: \nIf you can’t come Saturday\, or want to avoid covid contacts contact me about doing Friday instead\, or another day. It would be great to have a small group (or just you) for the afternoon or whatever works. \nSaturday evening you’re invited to stay and socialize; I’ll do dinner\, potluck contributions are welcome but not required. There could be a bonfire or a dharma discussion\, we’ll see what unfolds. \nFor basic information about coming to the farm\, see here. For current Covid safety information\, see here. \n\n\n \n CommentsThis field is for validation purposes and should be left unchanged.Your Full Name*Email*\n \n Phone*Date and Hours attending (if you are not attending the full event)I am...*\n \n \n Paying today to attend this event\n \n \n \n Paying a deposit today and the balance when I arrive\n \n \n \n Requesting to do work exchange for attending\n How many days will you be attending? SUMMARY:The Gift of Fearlessness: 2nd & 4th Tuesday evenings 7:00-8:30 CT
DESCRIPTION:The Gift of Fearlessness: walking together\n7:00-8:30 pm Central Time\, 2nd & 4th Tuesday evenings\nWe started with the pandemic. Today climate is more frightening\, and polarization including war in the Middle East. How do we respond? \nA few things are known: calming down helps; community helps; a vision or direction for the future helps; taking action helps. \nWe meet regularly\, and most of us come most times. Our gatherings combine meditation\, information gathering\, discussion\, speculation\, and support. It’s a gathering of friends\, not a polished presentation. We’re just walking the road together. \nWe’re open to adding new people. To sign up\, or to ask questions\, email Shodo. If you’d like geographical connection – some of us are in southern Minnesota\, also Montana and the east coast. \n  \nThis is an ONLINE meeting using Zoom –  please go here https://zoom.us/j/91552957428 to join us. \nThe password is Zen\,  you shouldn’t need to download Zoom\, but please give yourself 5 minutes extra to figure it out the first time. You can enter early. \n  \nFee:  No charge. If you want to donate\, Click Here to go to Donate to MWA \n  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Work weekend September 4-5
DESCRIPTION:We gather in community to take care of the land and space. \nSometimes people take home fruits\, flowers\, vegetables\, plants – but mostly this is just about spending time together\, supporting the land and letting it take care of us. \nSeptember 4-5 (Labor Day weekend) continues summer harvest and foraging\,  plus care of fruit trees and preparation for transplanting. If we have enough people (or the right skills) there are a couple of carpentry projects\, some creative projects (rebuilding the firepit) and firewood (heavy labor). \nThe basic plan is Saturday 10-5\, with a lunch break around 1\, supper afterward\, and talking or sitting meditation in the evening. Sunday will be 9-4\, breakfast about 8\, optional sitting meditation early morning. \nYou can arrange to come earlier or stay later\, including spending an overnight or extra days – just talk with me. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Spring Work/Practice Period
DESCRIPTION:We’re offering an opportunity for a small group of people to practice together here\, for a few weeks to three months\, beginning as we move into spring. In addition to residential practice\, day volunteers are welcome as long as we can do it safely. \nThis is lighter than the classic Zen practice period with four hours of zazen and many hours of silence every day. We will sit together every morning and some evenings\, have study groups twice a week\, and work together; the land offers itself as teacher\, as does the human community. There will be group meetings for taking care of our shared life here. If you’re here during June sesshin or April land care retreats\, those offer more intensive practice times. \nThis is planned to be safe during the pandemic. When you arrive you will probably have a two-week quarantine\, spent in your room or outdoors\, unless you’re vaccinated. You may use this time for sitting\, study\, or wandering\, adding work projects as you become familiar with the space and routine. There is space in the house for three; as the weather warms we might add campers. If the pandemic gets more dangerous we will close to new guests; we’re guessing it won’t be necessary. \nHere are the planned work projects\, 6-8 hours most days with some days off: \n\nGarden preparation and planting\, and care of the wild land – throughout spring as time allows\nConstruction – opening up the house for more space\, more sun\, and an extra bedroom – first step toward a solar greenhouse – as soon as weather allows. We have an expert lead carpenter; he’s willing to work with volunteers.\nOf course we always need cooks\, one or several sharing.\n\nFor people coming for a residence of two weeks or more\, we’re asking a $50 deposit\, which is less than expenses but will help support our costs during the quarantine. That can be refunded after a month. If that’s prohibitive and you’re sure you will come\, talk to us. \nPlease fill out the registration form\, and use notes to say both your arrival and departure plans\, special needs\, and skills. If you’re interested in becoming a long-term resident\, please contact me. And absolutely read the Visitor Information page  to help you decide whether you’re ready to come. \nThanks. \nShodo \n  \n

SUMMARY:Declare Climate Emergency
DESCRIPTION:In community with people around the world\, we gather at the farm to acknowledge that we are in a climate emergency\, and to ask the question of how to address it together. Thanissara Mary Weinberg has initiated an international conversation on this date\, supported by Joanna Macy and other Buddhist leaders. \nThis will be a safe space for fears\, feelings\, hopes\, and uncertainty – and for the support of community as we look for our response. \nThis follows the Land Care Retreat\, and is followed by our monthly potluck which will be a chance to continue conversation about the climate emergency.
