March 6 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

March Zen class: The matter at hand – 3 Wednesday evenings

When you find your place where you are, practice occurs, actualizing the fundamental point. When you find your way at this moment, practice occurs, actualizing the fundamental point.

This three-session class introduces Dogen’s short writing “Genjo Koan”, sometimes translated as “the matter at hand” or “actualizing the fundamental point.” Written to a lay supporter, Genjo Koan is a succinct statement of Dogen’t deep philosophical understanding. We’ll begin by discussing the title itself, and the initial statements describing how reality works and the foundations of freedom. Each session includes presentation, discussion, and application to everyday life.

Three sessions: March 6, 13, 20 – Wednesday evening. Class begins at 6:30 pm Central Time, with 15 minutes of zazen (sitting meditation) followed by presentation and discussion, ending at 8 Central Time and followed by an optional sitting period to 8:30.

Because people have donated in the past, I’m able to offer this class freely. I encourage you to make a donation to support future classes and events.  Because I personally dislike vague donation requests, I suggest these amounts for the three weeks:

Supporter: $150 covers teacher’s time, preparation, materials, administration; internet plus Zoom; a little something for space, and a generous scholarship donation.
Cost: $100 covers teacher’s time, preparation, materials, administration; internet plus Zoom; a little something for space, if there are five participants as usual.
Your fee: Pay the amount that works for you, from zero to anything.
Commitment for all three weeks is strongly requested. The second and third week do not appear on the form because of website peculiarities.

Please register. Ignore the questions that don’t apply to an online class. I’m in process of creating a specific registration form for classes. Meanwhile, you can make a donation through the donate link.

There will be a new class each month in 2024. April and May: Bendowa (the wholeharted way) parts 1 and 2
