June Zen class: Instructions for the Cook – 3 Wednesday evenings June 5, 12, 19

Instructions for the Cook: Zen in daily life

“You should practice in such a way that things come and abide in your mind, and your mind returns and abides in things, all through the day and night.”

During my 40 years of Zen practice, I’ve noticed that practicing as cook (tenzo) can be transformative. Now we take up this teaching about daily practice for the community.

Part I is April 3, 10, and 17. Part 2 is May 1, 8, and 15.  Class begins at 6:30 pm Central Time, with 15 minutes of zazen (sitting meditation) followed by presentation and discussion, ending at 8 Central Time and followed by an optional sitting period to 8:30. You can register separately for each month.

Fees/donations

Because people have donated in the past, I’m able to offer this class freely. I encourage you to make a donation to support future classes and events.  I suggest these amounts for the three weeks:

Supporter: $150 covers teacher’s time, preparation, materials, administration; internet plus Zoom; a little something for space, and a generous scholarship donation.
Cost: $100 covers teacher’s time, preparation, materials, administration; internet plus Zoom; a little something for space, if there are five participants as usual.
Your fee: Pay the amount that works for you, from zero to anything.
Commitment for all three weeks is strongly requested. The second and third week do not appear on the form because of website peculiarities.

Please register. Ignore the questions that don’t apply to an online class. I’m in process of creating a specific registration form for classes. Meanwhile, you can make a donation through the donate link.

There will be a new class each month in 2024. June: Tenzo Kyokun – instructions for the cook – daily life.
