Community Day – Biochar & land repair – Saturday May 3, 9:30-3:30
Join Clean River Partners for a fun volunteer day with Mountains and Water Alliance!
We will spend the day outdoors with the land. Rain date is May 4, same place, same time. Feel free to swing by when you can or stick around for the whole day. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll meet on Sunday, May 4, at the same time and place.
Parking will be on the big lawn area to the left. If anyone has mobility issues, just let us know beforehand so we can help with parking and any other needs. (There are three other households on the driveway; we’re first on the left, house looks like a barn. Park before that.)
9:30 AM — Welcome

9:45 AM — Biochar Burn Time: this involves playing with fire, and a lot of learning, led by Perry Post.
11:30 AM — Volunteer Appreciation Lunch: We’ll have soup (including Shodo’s famous nettle soup), sandwiches, and some tasty brownies or banana bread. (Snacks and beverages all day.)

12:30 PM — Invasive Species Removal: After lunch we’ll work with removing invasive species from an area of woods that we want to restore.
2:30 PM — Quench the Burn
3:15 PM — Closing
3:30 PM — Depart

Things to know:
- Wear sturdy shoes. If you have a favorite shovel, favorite gloves, and/or a tree wrench, bring them; otherwise we provide. I recommend avoiding fuzzy clothes, which pick up burrs and stuff. Jeans and a shirt are good, and I can lend appropriate thing. We shouldn’t need bug stuff, but we have it.
- If you would like to take home a little pine tree, you might bring a bucket or plant pot. A 5-gallon bucket would be enough for the biggest trees.
- Let us know if you’d like to come early or late to help. Or to look for morels.
- Weather forecast looks great.
